Lyla Dean was hired as a Guidance Counselor.  She is a recent graduate of IPFW, where she received her Masters in Education with a concentration in school counseling.  She completed an internship at Southwest Allen County School District.  Lyla spends her free time with her husband and son and also enjoys going to concerts. 

Jessica Carlson was hired as an Instructional Coach.  Before starting at GKB, Jessica taught sophomore English and remediation at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne. She has over a decade of experience as a secondary English teacher and received her Master of Education from Indiana Wesleyan University and undergraduate degree in English and Secondary Education at Houghton College. When Jessica is not at school, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, hiking with her dogs, teaching swimming lessons, beekeeping, raising chickens and gardening. 

Lydia Gard was hired as a Special Education teacher and as the High School Volleyball Coach.  She is a 2002 graduate of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. degree in Kinesiology.  While at the U of I, she was a three-year starter for the women’s volleyball program.  After graduation, she played one season professionally, leading the team to a league championship.  She is passionate about empowering others to achieve their potential.  To live out that passion, she has taught high school for four years and has also spent timeserving with a non-profit organization overseas.  Lydia and her husband, Derek, reside in Garrett, where they are excited to raise their four awesome kids!

Steve Orth was hired as a Math teacher.  Steve is a Fort Wayne native and he went to Huntington College and graduated with a Youth Ministry Degree in 2004.  After 8 years in another field, he graduated from Western Governor University in 2013 with a Middle School Math teaching degree.  He has been married to his wife Alison for 12 years and they have 4 children:  Aiden, Cora, Brenna and Kellen.  While at Huntington, he played baseball and he enjoys coaching his kids in their sports.  Steve loves NFL Football, the Cubs and traveling America with his family. 

Shalona Moody was hired as an English teacher.  She earned her Bachelors Degree in Language Arts from IPFW.  She has been an educator for the past 8 years and most recently worked at DeKalb High School.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
